For Emergency, Call 9-1-1

Shortly after 7 a.m. today (Tuesday, August 6th, 2024), the Police Control Room received a call about a vehicle on fire at Sandy Point, North Caicos.

Officers of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force, Medical Personnel, the Fire  Department and Fortis TCI responded.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the driver lost control of his vehicle, struck a tree, and the car subsequently caught afire. This was a single vehicular crash, and no one reported injuries.

The Fire Department extinguished the fire at the scene.

Following the incident, Sgt Crystal Stubbs said, “This was a serious accident, and thankfully, no one sustained serious injury. I urge drivers to obey the speeding limit as speeding reduces your reaction time and increases the severity of accidents.

“Secondly, avoid distractions. Texting, eating, or adjusting the radio can distract you from the road. Keep your focus on driving.

“Please remember, road safety is a shared responsibility. By adhering to the rules of the road, we can significantly reduce the number of accidents and ensure everyone reaches their destinations safely. Stay safe and drive responsibly. Remember, loved ones await at home”.
