For Emergency, Call 9-1-1

After 1:00 p.m. Monday, August 5, 2019 Officers of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force responded to a report of a drowning accident on Bambarra Beach, Middle Caicos.

Two female minors were rescued, a 34-year-old woman was confirmed dead around 2:00 p.m. and the second body of an adult male was recovered shortly after 5:00 p.m. One male is still missing.

Commissioner of Police Mr. Trevor Botting said, “This was a tragic loss of life and obviously all of us are asking every question we can about what went wrong. Our thoughts and our prayers go out to everyone, most especially the children involved. We live in a world filled with many bad things, but we still have good Samaritans. I would like to thank those who came to the aide of the children and everyone who were a part of the search and rescue, this includes volunteers, our Emergency Response Teams and the U.S. Coastguard Helicopter crew”.

Commissioner Botting added, “I would also like to thank our partner agencies, the Governor and the Premier for the support during this operation and for the care and support provided to the children involved”.

The search has now been suspended and it will resume in the morning with the support of the U.S. Coastguard to locate the third person involved.
