THE ROYAL TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS POLICE FORCE

Service with Pride and Integrity

For Emergency, Call 9-1-1

With the continued hard work and dedication of all staff, and in line with the Commissioner’s commitment to keep the public informed, The Commissioner of Police Mr. James Smith, is
pleased to release Crime Data for the third quarter of 2017/2018, covering the months of October, November and December.

This data covers all crime reported in the Turks and Caicos Islands. “I am delighted to report that we have recorded 426 crimes, down from 667 in the same period last year – a decrease of 36%. In that period, we have detected 28% of reported crimes, up from 22% for the same period last year. We now have data covering the first nine months of the year, and that downward
trend continues.

From April to December, we have recorded 1756 crimes, 279 less crimes than the year before and 582 less than same nine months in 2015/16. This means that on the year to date, crime is down 14% in this nine month period when compared to last year. It is pleasing to note that, although just nine months of data, the average numbers of crimes per day has decreased from nine in 2015/16, to seven in 2016/17 and currently sits at five crimes per day. My officers will continue to monitor crime patterns, target offenders and bring offenders to justice.

We recognized a small rise in armed criminality recently in the Blue Hills area and we are actively targeting those responsible. I would ask for the continued support of the public and businesses to ensure that we keep the Country safe.” If you have further questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
