The Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force is cautioning the public to remain indoors and adhere to the advice of the Department of Disaster Management & Emergencies (DDME).
Deputy Commissioner of Police Rodney Adams advises the public, that currently, there are periods of heavy, intense showers and gusty winds over the Turks and Caicos Islands due to the passage of Hurricane Fiona.
DCP Adams said: “It has come to our attention that members of the public, namely those in Providenciales, Grand Turk and South Caicos, are flouting the regulations of the DDME by traversing the streets and venturing outdoors. Should you find yourselves in a dangerous situation, there may be no one to render aid.
“Additionally, your recklessness to ignore set warnings may also place the lives of my officers and that of rescue personnel at risk. I urge you to be responsible and await the all-clear from the DDME before venturing outside”.
The RTCIPF advises should you encounter dangerous conditions, contact the police or other emergency authorities and follow the warnings and directions provided.
If you have an emergency, call 911.
