A 22-year-old male remains in police custody following his arrest for attempting to introduce prohibited articles into the prison.
On Sunday, February 23, 2025, during a visit to H.M. Prison—Home of the Department of Correction and Rehabilitation in Grand Turk—prison officers had cause to search items brought in by the suspect.
He was detained after checks revealed contraband hidden inside food destined for an inmate. Officers of the RT&CIPF promptly responded, and the suspect was arrested on suspicion.
Under the Prisons Ordinance – Section 11 (Possession or introduction of prohibited articles) states: Any person who–– (d) takes any prohibited article to or from any prisoner, whether such prisoner is in prison or in custody outside a prison;
