On Friday 29th April four (4) Officers of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force including DECR along with three (6) officers from other British Overseas Territories have completed a two weeks intensive course on Small Craft Handling and Navigation Course.
The training which was conducted by Warrant Officer Martin Power from the Royal Navy in England and Chief Petty Officer Mark Grey from the Royal Marine in England will improve officers’ abilities at sea when navigating different boats.
“It can be very challenging at times during search and rescue operations especially during inclement weather,” said Officer Power. “For the past two (2) weeks the officers responded well, and I am sure those who took part in it will certainly be able to handle situations better due to what they have learnt.”
Every year this training takes place in different territories and last year it was done in the Cayman Islands. This year participating in the course were officers from the Royal Anguilla Marine Police, Royal Montserrat Police Service, Bermuda Maritime Unit and the British Virgin Islands Police.
