POLICE have today praised Provo’s Haiti Flag Day Parade revellers. Hundreds hit the streets to celebrate the big event, last weekend. The parade, which began Downtown, ended with a party at the National Stadium in Venetian Road. Officers said there were no reports of trouble throughout the event, which many have described as the biggest and best ever. Acting Inspector, Kendall Grant, said: “The Haiti Flag Day parade is one of the biggest gatherings on the island and one that the RTCI Police is always delighted to assist with. “We had officers on duty along the parade route and also at the after-parade celebrations at the National Stadium, and I’m pleased to report it was a happy, peaceful and colourful occasion. “I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who attended and helped the event pass off so successfully. Also a big thank you to the organisers who we worked closely without throughout. “Obviously we are committed to police big gatherings like these and ensure people’s safety in the process. But these sort of community events give the police and the public an ideal platform to engage with each other which is also very valuable.”

Meanwhile Haiti Flag Day organisers have thanked the RTCI Police for its contribution to a ‘wonderful day’. “Organising events like these is very stressful”, said Ange Toussaint, “but it’s worth it when you see the end result. “It was a wonderful day and I would like to thank the RTCI Police for helping towards that success. “We received nothing but help and co-operation from officers and we are really grateful for their huge contribution.”
