Commissioner of Police Fitz Bailey visited the Clement Howell High School yesterday, where he delivered a powerful and inspiring address to male students, encouraging them to recognize their potential and strive to become the best versions of themselves.
The top cop reminded the young men that “the choices you make today determine who you become tomorrow.”
Stressing the importance of self-respect, discipline, and faith, Commissioner Bailey pointed out, “the circumstances you were born into do not define who you are. Self-respect is key; respect yourself as an individual, respect others, and most importantly, respect God.”
Drawing from his personal journey, Commissioner Bailey shared that he was the first in his family to attend high school. He encouraged the students to focus on education and personal growth, describing reading as the foundation of true manhood.
“Knowledge is power. If you want to be a real man, you need to read,” he stated. “Remember your potential; if others can do it, so can you. Some of you are sleeping giants waiting to be awakened.”
The students were also urged to remain resilient in the face of adversity.
“There will be challenges, and people may try to impede your development, but rise above negativity. Sometimes, strength means walking away. Awaken the latent talent within you and move forward. Some of you are sleeping lions; it’s time to awaken that instinct and rediscover your true potential,” Commissioner Bailey said.
In closing, the Commissioner issued a heartfelt challenge: “Each morning, look in the mirror and remind yourself that you were created by God and are capable of great exploits. You are a possibility with potential. Step forward with confidence; this is your country, your islands. Be the best version of yourself.”
Following his address, Commissioner Bailey facilitated questions, allowing the young men to share their thoughts, seek advice, and engage in open dialogue on issues affecting them.
