For Emergency, Call 9-1-1

Commissioner of Police Fitz Bailey today held an informal meeting with Deputy Chief James McCarthy of the New York City Police Department (NYPD) at the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force Headquarters.

The meeting provided an opportunity for both law enforcement leaders to engage in substantive discussions on a range of policing matters, including the CompStat model of policing (short for  “Computer Statistics” or “Comparative Statistics”), gang-related issues, community-based policing, staff motivation, and the critical relationship between the community and the police.

Commissioner Bailey and Deputy Chief McCarthy exchanged insights on emerging crime trends, emphasizing the importance of data collection and analysis in shaping effective policing strategies. The dialogue also addressed the challenges of illegal migration, the cross-border nature of criminal activity, and the impact of crime on national development and economic stability.

On the evolving policing landscape, Commissioner Bailey noted that, “Over the past decade, the policing environment has transitioned from a largely community-based approach to one that must address increasingly complex and violent threats. We must therefore resocialize ourselves to effectively respond to the current challenges through proactive, intelligence-led strategies.”

Both officers underscored the value of community involvement and the shared responsibility of citizens and law enforcement in promoting safety and security.
