The Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force (RTCIPF) Marine Branch intercepted a vessel
suspected of being involved in illegal migration during the early hours of Wednesday, September 2,
2026.
The vessel was detected by the Marine Operations Centre (Coastal Radar Unit) in the vicinity of
Northwest Point, Providenciales. Marine Branch officers responded swiftly and successfully
intercepted the vessel before it could make landfall.
The operation, involving the Marine Branch, Marine Operations Centre, National Intelligence
Bureau, Incident Command, resulted in the interception of an overloaded vessel carrying 171
irregular migrants.
The migrants were safely escorted to South Dock and handed over to the Turks and Caicos Islands
Border Force for processing in accordance with local laws.
This latest interception brings the total number of migrants intercepted at sea by the RTCIPF in 2026
to approximately 1,075 individuals aboard eight vessels, underscoring the Force’s ongoing efforts to
combat illegal migration and migrant smuggling.
Commissioner of Police Fitz Bailey commended Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police Kendal
Grant for his leadership and oversight of the successful marine operation, which resulted in the
seamless interception and praised the dedication, professionalism, and coordinated efforts of the
Marine Branch Officers and all units involved.
The RTCIPF continues to work closely with national and regional partners to protect the borders of
the Turks and Caicos Islands and disrupt illegal migration activities.
