Sixty-two (62) irregular migrants have been detained today as operations continue following the
grounding of an irregular migrant vessel at approximately 7:30 a.m. in the Southern Bush Bay
area of East Caicos.

With critical assistance from members of the fishing and business community in South Caicos,
all 62 individuals were successfully rescued from the water along the banks of East Caicos.
The detained individuals are currently being transported to Providenciales for processing.

Humanitarian support is being provided where necessary, with assistance from the Department
of Disaster Management and Emergencies (DDME) and the Red Cross.
The illegal vessel involved has been recovered and is being escorted to Providenciales.

Following the information received, a coordinated response was immediately launched by the
Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force (RT&CIPF), the Turks and Caicos Islands
Regiment, and Border Force.

Joint operations remain in place as a strong, coordinated presence in the area continues.
