The Serious Crime Unit of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force (RT&CIPF) has initiated an investigation following the detection of several rounds of ammunition in the luggage of a serving police officer during routine security screening at the Howard Hamilton International Airport.
The ammunition, concealed in the officer’s suitcase, was identified by airport security personnel, who subsequently contacted officers of the RT&CIPF.
An authority to search the home of the officer was conducted following his arrest, and additional rounds of ammunition were found.
The officer is currently the subject of an active police investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the find.
The RT&CIPF emphasizes that all officers are held to the highest standards of professionalism, accountability, and compliance within the law.
Any breach, whether administrative or criminal, will be addressed in a fair, proportionate, and lawful manner.
