Officers of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force, led by Acting Assistant Superintendent Kirton Sutton and including Acting Inspector Sherina Lightbourne, Constables Bryada Howell and Foline Dor, visited the Kew Town community on 28th October,2025 to assess residents’ readiness ahead of Hurricane Melissa.
Acting Assistant Commissioner Dwight Gardiner was also present alongside the officers, engaging directly with residents. The team assisted in securing vulnerable areas by installing shutters on homes and providing safety advice to residents. Acting ASP Sutton and his team also broadcasted to residents their options and listed available shelters in the event of evacuation becoming necessary, particularly for those in low-lying areas.
In North Caicos, Acting Sergeant Crystal Stubbs, Constables Tyrone Cox and Gassenn Michel, and members of the Turks and Caicos Islands Regiment assisted with the filling and distribution of sandbags to help residents prepare for potential flooding.
Additionally, Her Excellency the Governor, during her community visit to Five Cays, conducted on-site visits with the RRT&CIPF to better understand key risks and the mitigation plans in place.
