The Royal Turks & Caicos Islands Police are asking the TCI public to be vigilant about suspicious activities in their neighbourhood. Police Public Relations Officer Audley Astwood is asking the public to trust their instincts. “If something doesn’t seem right in your neighborhood or your school, it probably isn’t. Prompt and detailed reporting of suspicious activities can help prevent violent crimes. If you see suspicious activity, please report it to the police. Officers can respond quickly. Once they assess the situation, they can obtain additional support.
If you see something suspicious, the first thing you should always do is call the Police at 9413327. If there is a life-threatening emergency, please call 911.
Fighting crime is a joint effort by the public and the Police. When reporting suspicious activity, it is helpful to give the most accurate description possible, including:
-
Brief description of the activity
-
Date, time and location of the activity
-
Physical identifiers of anyone you observed
-
Descriptions of vehicles (record license plate number)
-
Information about where people involved in suspicious activities may have gone
Your name and contact information (optional)
Be very suspicious but do NOT approach:
-
Persons walking up and down the street and/or parking lot looking into cars or trying door handles.
-
Vehicles cruising the street and/or parking lots at very low speeds for extended periods while observing parked cars.
-
Persons sitting in running parked cars for prolonged periods and vehicles dropping one person off while continuing to cruise the same area.
We prefer to check an innocent citizen going about their business than to not check and end up taking a crime report.
Reporting suspicious activities might help the Police identify a suspect or a crime trend. For activities in progress, call 911. Otherwise, call the Police at 941-3327 or use the untraceable, anonymous Crime Stoppers Miami number at 1-800-(TIPS) or 1-800-8477. No names or numbers are requested and only the information provided is passed on to the Royal Turks & Caicos Islands Police Force.
