In the Chief Magistrate’s Court on Friday July 26th, 2013, a male of Providenciales was ordered to pay a fine of fifty thousand dollars ($50,000 USD) in a (6) six month period or a summons will be issued for his appearance to appear in court. If this occurs, a term of imprisonment will be determined by the Chief Magistrate at such a time.
This order was given by Chief Magistrate Clifton Warner after a summons to show cause was served on a surety, who stood a $50,000 bail for an accused who abscond the jurisdiction.
Before passing the sentence Chief Magistrate Warner informed the surety of his responsibility as a surety. The surety’s responsibility is to ensure that the person he/she is standing bail for, appear to a police station or the court on the dates given by the police or the court.
