The two Police Officers from the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service arrived on Providenciales on Wednesday 3rd January 2018 and have now commenced their independent investigation into the incident which culminated in the fatal shooting of Mr Lavern Smith on Monday 1st January 2018 in Aviation Drive Providenciales. The Royal Cayman Islands Team consists of one Detective Inspector and one Police Sergeant.
Detective Inspector Joseph Wright who is the lead Investigator wants to assure the community that his enquiry will be conducted in a frank and diligent manner. To facilitate this, the detective Inspector is making an open appeal to members of the public who were at or in the area of Aviation Drive between midnight and 7am on 1st January 2018 to come forward and speak to the investigation team.
Detective Inspector Wright said ‘ I am aware that the incident on the morning of 1st January 2018 was witnessed by several members of the local community who were in attendance at a public event at Aviation Drive at a public event. To ensure transparency and fairness to every one concerned am appealing to all members of the public who were present at the event at Aviation Drive to come forward and speak to us.
