Police and Immigration are continuing air and sea search operation following in incident of an illegal Haitian sloop which is suspected to have capsized in rough seas in the North West Point area of Providenciales today (Tuesday 24th January 2017).

Following extensive searches, 10 bodies were recovered (7 females and three males).  Information suggests that a large number of persons were on board the small vessel and it is still uncertain as to how many survived or still missing at sea. Searches will be conducted for the next few hours and into the upcoming days.
Commissioner of Police Mr. James Smith said, “This is a tragic incident with significant loss of life and our condolences o out to the families of those involved.”

Persons within the Haitian Community with concerns regarding relatives can contact the Chalk Sound Police Station at 338-5901 for information.

Anyone who has information on the whereabouts of illegal immigrants who may have arrived on this boat is asked to come forward with any information or contact the Chalk Sound Police Station.
